BREAKFAST

Cru Café | 1 Casino Terrace - 401-314-0500

Located a stone’s throw away from the Tennis Hall of Fame. Superb coffee. Energetic vibe. They have a special Brunch menu on the weekend (and select Holidays).

‼️ Free parking can be challenging when they are busy.

Corner Café | 110 Broadway - 401-846-0606

Robust and eclectic menu. They have quite a variety in specials. If you are not a big fan of waiting, try to go right when they open. There is generally a wait. Definitely worth the wait. Friendly and accommodating staff.

‼️ There is always a wait unless you get there right when they open

Belle’s Café | 1 Washington Street - 401-619-5964

A perfect breakfast/lunch spot if you want play the , “how many millions does that yacht cost” game. Located inside the Newport Shipyard. The last time we went Johnny Depp’s boat was being serviced.

Atlantic Grille | 91 Aquidneck Ave - 401-849-4440

Tickets Bar & Grill | 15 Aquidneck Ave - 401-847-7678

Great coffee. Service can sometimes be slow when they are busy. But they have plenty of seating and views of the water.

Other Breakfast Options

  • Franklin Spa

  • Wally’s Weiners

  • Coming soon (July 2023)

  • Blue Plate Diner in Middletown

    • old school diner feel… best french toast on the island

      • note, this place in Los Angeles is how I judge my french toast

BRUNCH

There are a few places to do brunch in Newport. It will depend on your definition of brunch. Most places in town have some type of brunch during the warmer months on the weekends.

Perro Salado | 19 Charles Street - 401-619-4777

We love Perro. The menu is ever-changing. If they have the lobster omelet, indulge.

The blood orange margarita is a must!

Scales & Shells | Brunch Specific

We have yet to experience their brunch (new as of May 2023) but Scales may be our favorite restaurant in Newport. They do all things exceptionally well.

Note: They do not take reservations.

Cru Cafe (see above)

June 2024 - just ask, there’s a bunch of new Brunch spots to chat about

LUNCH

LUNCH & DINNER This is a work in progress. There are so many great places. As we compile this, we will share more information.

But, feel free to ask/text us our favorites.

If you find a favorite while visiting, please share.

Brick Alley Pub

140 Thames Street - (401) 849-6334

"The Brick" has a great salad and soup bar. But also the best nachos. 365 Days a year this place has some type of wait. But… worth it! Tuesday is Brandon's favorite day. ALBONDIGAS SOUP day. A good strategy is to go in, leave your name, then peruse the local shops. There is a gem of an Art Gallery right next door. Seaside Art Gallery. Incredible & affordable pieces.

Ash Mart Deli

Located right at the end of Thames. Some of the best sandwiches in town.

Steak & Cheese on the gluten-free wrap with chipotle mayo.

Italian Grinders! Beach sundries.

Pro tip : Order online and it will be ready for you when you arrive. They can get pretty slammed with pre-beach orders. Or any non-rainy days nearly every construction worker in town orders a sandwich around lunch time. Online ordering can be your friend.

We are not “foodies” per se, but we love to give recommendations based on how you are feeling in the moment.

Speakeasy Bar & Grill

250 Thames Street - (401) 846-0514

Speak has the world's biggest cheese plate. Seriously. It will (as of 02/28/16) feed four people. Their steaks and burgers are spot on.

Pan Roasted chicken is an all-star.

Shrimp scamp with angel hair. Chef’s kiss!

Boru Noodle Bar

36 Broadway - (401) 846-4200

Note: We generally get Boru for takeout, but it is definitely a favorite.

If you are a noodle fanatic and live in a place that is has noodle bars on every corner. We do not know what you would think/feel. We would love to hear your thoughts. We adore Boru.

The kale salad and brussels are a must as sides.

Their coconut tumeric pork nachos are so tasty!

ITALIAN

Mamma Luisa | 673 Thames Street (401) 848-5247

The CLOSEST restaurant to our house. Traditional Italian dishes. Delicious! Located in a house on Thames Street. Fantastic + eclectically interesting staff.

Pro tip : 47 ANNO DOMINI VINEYARDS LE ARGILLE is our favorite Cab

Viesté

Get the mussels appetizer. Make sure to ask for extra bread!

They have Live Music on certain nights. Since opening in the summer of 2020, they are really finding their groove.

Pasta Beach

Lively feel. Delicious food.

Excellent and knowledgeable waitstaff.

Bar Cino

Part of The Newport Restaurant Group.

We recommend all the restaurants in the NRG.

Mother Pizza

Meataballs, garlic knots, pepperoni pizza = a great meal for two.

Sardellas

Cozy. Great outside seating area during the summer.

STEAK

As with seafood, most places have fantastic steak options. 22 Bowens is really the only dedicated steak house in town.

PLANT BASED

Note: Despite our best efforts and desire to be more plant-centric, we have failed miserably at this endeavor. However, my niece and her husband are both vegetarians, and some of our guests have suggested these places.

Root on Broadway

6 Broadway - (401) 847-2727

Sprout in Middletown

Other

Burger & a Beer

Pour Judgment.

Small. Has a bit of a NYC feel with it’s rectangular space. Can be a tad loud. The food is delicious. The staff is friendly. They have a wide assortment of beers. If you are there early enough, they have a Nori of the day that is spectacular.

Zeldas

Best Margarita

These two places (Diegos & Perro Salado) are amazing.

Diegos has outdoor/patio style seating and an amazing Passion Fruit margarita. Ask for sugar on the rim. Perro is in an old house and has out of this world Blood Orange margaritas. Get the sticky ribs @ Perro.

Best Calamari (appetizer)

Over the past few years, we have become quite the calamari connoisseurs. I (Brandon) am writing this at 936pm on Sat 06/13/20 and just had arguably the best calamari from Zeldas.

Other favorite calamari appetizer spots are:

22 Bowens

Scales & Shells

Sagres in Fall River

Odds are you will probably not venture to Fall River while you are visiting. But, if you are here for an extended period of time and want to explore off-island, then head on up to Sagres for authentic Portuguese cuisine. Their Buffalo Calamari is perfect. And, they have a goat cheese appetizer that is brought in every day from a woman that makes it in her home.

Chourico

In Rhode Island we have a Portuguese sausage called chourico.

“Shah-Reese” is how the locals pronounce it. It is akin to Mexican Chorizo, but just a tad bit spicier.

GLUTEN-FREE / PALEO

Every restaurant in town has some form of GF menu. If there’s a specific GF dish you really enjoy, just ask. We’ll do our best to steer you in the right direction.
